"Two Programs still need to close" - When logging off computer

  • Question
  • Updated 1 year ago
When my users attempt to log off their Win7 Pro PC, they get the windows "2 Programs still need to close" Those programs are g2tray.exe and gotomypc.exe.

Obviously I know what those are, but how do I prevent those errors and have those programs close out automatically?

Hi Rob,

When you log off or shutdown your computer, Windows 7 and 8 will check to see if there are any programs that need to close before proceeding with the force log off. The process g2tray is connected to the GoToMyPC Windows service and is closed by the software when logging off or shutting down your computer. By design, GoToMyPC is one of the last Windows Services to close when you shut down your computer. Because of this delay, Windows may attempt to close the g2tray process before the GoToMyPC service is able to. This will generate a warning message saying that "GoToMyPC is preparing to reconnect your remote session"

If you see this prompt and you are attempting to log off of your computer, it is recommended that you click Force log off. This will allow certain components of the GoToMyPC software to close properly.

We are investigating a way to prevent GoToMyPC from triggering the Force Log Off prompt from being generated and hopes to address this issue with a future release of GoToMyPC. There is no ETA at this time.

Thanks for posting this. We are also having this issue and it seems like the only solution to get everything back in line is to reinstall GoToMyPC. Is that correct or is there an easier fix?
Also, are you sure that clicking Force Log Off prevents the problem? Our users have reported that if they are in the office and logging off that clicking Force Log Off will put GoToMyPC in an offline state. If they are connected remotely and don't click Force Log Off, however, they likewise can't reconnect. It seems hit and miss and we appreciate any consistent message you can help us craft.
